Should You Insure Your Mobile Phone?

MOBILE APP

When it comes to insurance for your mobile phone, many people are reluctant which is understandable when often you are paying a lot each month to use the phone along with various other costs. As with most types of insurance, it is better to be safe than sorry, though, especially when you consider that the price of smartphones is constantly going up with many now northwards of £1,000.

An Essential Item

In today’s day and age, a smartphone is almost an extension of the body with many people using their phone constantly throughout the day for work and pleasure. People would feel completely lost without a smartphone these days as they can help in so many different aspects of life, so as such an important item, it is natural that you will want to protect it from theft, damage or loss.

Risk

Additionally, the fact that a smartphone is used in so many different settings and is always taken with you means that it is at great risk. Many people have either broken, lost or had their phone stolen in their lifetime and it is only getting more expensive to replace these high-tech items.

Get Peace of Mind

Mobile phone insurance is therefore a worthwhile cost and one that could end up saving you a fortune as well as provide peace of mind knowing that your investment is protected. Despite the clear value of having mobile phone insurance, statistics show that only 24% of owners are covered by mobile phone insurance in the UK which means that most are putting themselves at great financial risk.

Getting Insurance

As with most types of insurance, there are a few different options that you need to consider and always read the small print. The easiest way to ensure your phone is to buy from your existing network which you are usually offered when you sign the phone contract, but keep in mind that these are not the cheapest option.

Standalone Policies & Home Insurance

Instead, you could arrange a standalone mobile phone insurance policy from a specialist and this is often the best solution as you get the best and most flexible levels of cover along with better customer service. Another option is to add your mobile to home insurance as possessions outside the home extra, but be sure to check the excess as it could be upwards of £100 and it could also increase your home insurance if you have to make a claim.

With smartphones being such important devices to people of all ages in today’s day and age, it is important that you protect yourself with mobile phone insurance. It can cost an enormous amount to replace a smartphone and they are often at risk as they are high-value items that are taken everywhere, so make sure that you protect your investment with sufficient cover.
