Telephony 5G has arrived and is not scary

ai

There are moments in which in the world of technology the present and the future overlap,
then the second glides away to paint the new scenarios that will have to come. With arrival
of 5G in Europe we are living in one of those moments. We have not yet definitively said
goodbye to our 3G mobile phones, and our 4G devices still seem to us new and performing
rather well. But after the debut of 5G networks in our area, we begin to look at the models
that will be able to exploit all the new potential offered by the new network. The options are
still rather limited, but this is a market ready to explode within a few months, with offers from
various manufacturers.

In Europe the first mobile operator to offer a solutions on 5G is Vodafone, which is now
focusing on the evolution of the Giga Network 5G present in the main European cities. The
promise is to make it accessible in all the European countries in which it operates. O2 also
has 2 tariff plans dedicated to 5G that include EU roaming.

5G smartphones

Operator offers are connected to latest-generation smartphones that support the 5G
network. Surprisingly, for the general public, but not for professionals, it was the Chinese
brand Xiaomi that offered the first 5G smartphones in Europe. These debuted in conjunction
with Vodafone’s tariff plans. The first product launched was the Xiaomi Mi Mix 5G. But the
company is determined to ride this wave. At the moment it continues its attack on industry
leaders with the launch of the Mi 9 Pro and Mi Mix Alpha. This latest futuristic model features
an exceptional 108 megapixel camera and an innovative curved screen.
Samsung, on the other hand, is offering the Galaxy A90 with 5G NSA connectivity. This is
was also added to the Galaxy Note10 + always with 5G connectivity.

Apple is late, and it will probably launch the 5G version of the iPhone 11 only in 2020. This
delay is penalizing the new Apple, given that many users are waiting for the launch of the
new 5G version. Many people see a flop risk in the iPhone 11, which probably won’t have
the same successes as its predecessor, the XR.

5G and health risks: no alarmism, word of the ISS

Very often the launch of a new technology is accompanied by fears and alarmism of all
kinds. These can be relatively kept at bay thanks to a report published by the University of
Venice. This document, entitled “Radiofrequency Radiation and Cancer: Synthesis of
Scientific Evidence” extinguishes alarmism. The report highlights a fundamental fact. There
is no significant evidence that the radio frequencies underlying the operation of mobile
telephony can cause damage to the population. With the advent of the 5G network, things
will remain basically as they are. This means that in practice the magnetic fields to which the
population is exposed will remain roughly unchanged. The waves emitted by the 5G stations
will be of different types and if a change occurs, it will probably be for the better. The spread
of 5G networks may lead to an increase in the number of stations. This, however, instead of
increasing exposure to radiation, as many fear, will diminish it. The reason lies in the fact
that a magnetic field placed at a shorter distance also has a lower intensity. It is equally fast and reliable.

The University of Venice report, even if it does not lead to the idea of a zero risk, related to
the spread of these technologies, greatly reduces the alarmism. So fast networks are
welcome, which in the future will be able to make up for those shortcomings that in many
areas of Italy, the physical networks have not been able to overcome.
